10^x =400, so take logs on both sides so, xlog10=log400, divide both sides by log10 so X=log400/log10 --> stick that in ur cal and u get value of X.

Write 400 as some number multiplied by some power of 10, then use log laws to rearrange.

As far as I can tell there's no way to get an exact answer to this one. Are you sure you don't mean 7^(x+1)?
