IBM Apprenticeship and Gap Year Schemes 2016

Hey everyone! :hello:

We're IBM and we're new to TSR today!

You may of heard of IBM - but do you know what we do?

We know there's loads of different options for you when you finish college/sixth form and it's not always an easy decision of what to do next ...

We're happy to offer advice because all of us at some point have travelled or gone to Uni and joined IBM as an Intern/Graduate or jumped straight into work on IBM's Apprenticeship or Gap Year scheme.

An Apprenticeship or Gap Year scheme is a great option because it offers you the chance to earn money, build your skills and work with great people. If you want to know more then ask away!

Thanks

Last time I looked at IBM they had just announced that they were going to run a degree apprenticeship. Do you have more details on that now? Length/ uni/ course/ wage/ accommodation etc or a page all about it?
Hey Jackhaugh,

It's great to hear you've heard of IBM's fantastic Degree Apprenticeship! We can certainly speak to that team and find out all the answers to those questions for you. Is it the Business or Technical roles you're interested in?

What stage are you currently at in your studies? Or have you already left education?

Thanks Maddie. On the IBM website I can't find a single thing on the Degree Apprenticeship. I understand it will be like with QMUL? Things like your role, course, wage, entry requirements, location, application etc are things I haven't been able to find.

I finished my A Levels last year with A*BB, I'm on a year out at the minute in order to sort some medical problems of mine out.

Hi Jackhaugh,

Congratulations on achieving some great A-levels!

IBM are currently piloting the Degree Apprenticeship and you are correct that we are partnering with Queen Mary University. Once the scheme is established we will be able to share more details about the scheme and the application process. If you are interested in completing the Degree Apprenticeship with IBM, firstly select whether you'd like to do the Technical or Business Apprenticeship and then make it clear on your Application Form you would like to apply for the specific Degree Apprenticeship.

Thanks very much Maddie. Do you know when the scheme will be finalised roughly?

Hi Jackhough,

Unfortunately we do not have any information on the time scale of when we are hoping to finalise the scheme. we have a few current Apprentices trialling the Degree Apprenticeship

Hi, I've sent off my application for the apprenticeship programme in becoming a buisness specialist some time ago and haven't heard from the company since.

I'm worried about the application I sent of as although I completed the template CV I didn't add it into the CV part of the application and instead added my regular CV but added the template at the end of the application but I'm worried this has severely impacted my chances of going through to the next round. Can you give me any advice over this problem?

Hi Hitchcoakfan97!

Thank you for getting in touch and please don't panic about your application! We'll resolve any concerns you have

Did you receive a confirmation email saying your application had been submitted?

Thanks
Maddie
Hi Maddie,

Yes I have received a conformation email three weeks back! The last email I received from IBM was about the accommodation form and 'IBM's IPAT' assessment, which I have both completed around two weeks ago but have not heard anything since.

I'm just wondering when should I expect to hear from IBM next, I understand the company must be swarmed with a lot of other people in a similar position to myself so I do expect it to be a while before I hear about my results, however I would like to prepare for whatever comes next.

Kind regards

Hey Hitchcoakfan97

You should have received an email saying you have completed your IPAT test and we will be in touch shortly. Strange you have not been sent this!

The best thing to do is for me to look into your application in more detail for you so bear with me whilst I PM you!

I thought the deadline for Strategic Analytics Consultant (Graduate Programme) was 31st January? Had meant to apply once I got done with exams and then got surprised to see that applications are closed

Hi ShadowPenn

We hope your exams went well!

The Graduate Strategic Analytics Consultant role has closed early due to a high volume of applications, however it may reopen. On our website we say that we operate a first come first served policy so it's always best to apply early to avoid disappointment.

Have you checked out any of our other roles? Our Software Consultant role may be of interest to you - however that also is due to close at the end of this month!

Best wishes

Hi. I was fortunate enough to be put through to IBM matching on the 26th November for the Leading to Africa placement program. I was wondering if you would have a rough idea of how long matching will be for this scheme? This particular scheme really appealed to me so I hope you can understand my eagerness to secure a role with IBM.

Kind regards.
Hi, I wondering if there are any gap year, short term work experiences opportunities within technology. I was looking for a placement for any period up to 6 months.
Thanks in advance.

Hi, I was wondering if the Gap Year Scheme is still open and if you can provide a link.
Hi, I'm very interested in your Technical Specialist Apprenticeship. I live in Newcastle and there are IBM Offices quite near me ( http://www-05.ibm.com/uk/locations/newcastle_cobalt.html ). This isn't one of the listed base locations in the apprenticeship description so would the apprenticeship be based there? Otherwise I think the nearest base location is Greenoch.
Thanks

Hey Theredlion

It's great you applied to LEADing to Africa it's a really innovative and exciting programme! There is no specific time scale for the matching process because it is dependent on who has roles available and when, however I will PM you to find out you details because I'm more than happy to look into your specific application!

Thanks,
Maddie

Hi Maddie,

I live up north and wanted to know more about the degree apprenticeship. For example, would we receive university accomodation / extra support if we were to do it, as I imagine surviving in London on 15kp/y would be very hard. The degree apprenticeship does look excellent (and a lot of hard work at that, too), but, I'm pretty sure it means that the apprenticeship will ensure that you work, so that all you can afford to do is work.

Hi Glavien

Thank you for getting in touch! We off a Technology Futures Placement which acts as a Gap Year after you have finished college/sixth form which is at present is 12 months long.

Is this something you would be interested in? It's a fantastic scheme and gives you the option to rotate through different roles in a variety of technology areas you are interested in.

Thanks
Maddie
