Hi, I'm very interested in your Technical Specialist Apprenticeship. I live in Newcastle and there are IBM Offices quite near me ( http://www-05.ibm.com/uk/locations/newcastle_cobalt.html ). This isn't one of the listed base locations in the apprenticeship description so would the apprenticeship be based there? Otherwise I think the nearest base location is Greenoch.
Thanks
Jem Graham

Hi Jem Graham

It's great to hear your interest in our Technical Specialist Higher Apprenticeship programme. You are right in that IBM have offices all over the UK and Ireland and for the Apprentice roles your location is very much dependent on the type of work you will be doing.

It is unlikely you will be based in Newcastle or even Greenoch, our Technical Apprentices are typically South - London, Farnborugh, Winchester, Warwick - sometimes Preston which may be closer for yourself.

For our Apprenticeship programme we like our candidates to be flexible with their base location and also be willing to travel, because you may also be working with a client at their site some days!

Please get in touch if there's anything else I can help you with

Thanks

Hi, I was wondering if the Gap Year Scheme is still open and if you can provide a link.

Hey there!

Yes our Gap Year programme (The Futures scheme) is still open to apply for and here's the link -

Applications close at the end of March but it's best to apply early!

Good luck

Thanks for your reply. I think traveling to different locations would be great as I live close to Newcastle airport and the Central train station. But would my current location affect my eligbility for this apprenticeship? As I said earlier I'm very interested in this apprenticeship so I'd be more that willing to travel.
Thanks, Jem

Hi Maddie,

I live up north and wanted to know more about the degree apprenticeship. For example, would we receive university accomodation / extra support if we were to do it, as I imagine surviving in London on 15kp/y would be very hard. The degree apprenticeship does look excellent (and a lot of hard work at that, too), but, I'm pretty sure it means that the apprenticeship will ensure that you work, so that all you can afford to do is work.

Hey Trojan H

Thank you for getting in touch and asking us great questions about our Degree Apprenticeship. It really is a fantastic scheme and yes although it requires hard work it's definitely worth it!

IBM's Degree Apprenticeship is still in it's early days and we currently have our first cohort of students on this scheme now. As part of the Degree Apprenticeship we will pay for your tuition fees and as you will be predominately working for IBM you will not be provided University accommodation.

Please let me know if you would like any more information and how to apply!
Thanks

Hi Jem

It's great to hear how keen you are!

On the scheme you will be assigned a base location and this is one of our offices which you will travel into without it being expensed. These locations for Apprentices are the ones I mentioned before so therefore you would not have a base location in Newcastle.

You can still work out on client sites however they will typically be in areas around your base location.

Please let me know if you have any more questions!

Thanks

I'm finding the application process for this program so unintuitive, the format for the document application you fill in keeps getting corrupted when you save the file and now I cannot modify anything after several attempts at starting my application over. The online application obviously has been copy and pasted from graduate roles as I keep getting prompted to fill in data about higher education and the data banks overlap with the document you're asked to fill in. Perhaps my worst ever experience I've been through when applying for a role.

Hi Tinglay

We're really sorry to hear you have had such a frustrating experience with the application form. Thank you for bringing it to our attention.

Is this School Leaver application form any better for you?

Please let us know how you get on!

Hi,

That was the document I was using. I filled it in and saved it as a .docx, but after opening it again, all questions I filled in were blank. I tried this several times over, saving it as a open document instead, and now it keeps freezing on me every time I open it so I cannot make any changes.

I went ahead and submitted it anyway.

I wish the application and comptency questions could be filled in online to save people trouble though. Hopefully you can pass that suggestion on.

Hi Tinglay

I'm glad you were able to submit your application and best of luck with how it goes!

I'll pass that suggestion onto the team - thanks!

Does IBM hold any summer schemes for pre-uni students? I would love to work for IBM, even if it's just a short while, before I begin my studies.

Hi TrojanH

It's great to hear how enthusiastic you are about experiencing what working at IBM is like!

We are unable to offer shorter periods of work experience because we put so many resources into our Apprenticeship, Graduate schemes etc. However have you considered our Futures scheme? It's a great way to spend a year before heading off to Uni where you gain real life, paid experience at IBM!

Thanks

Hi, does anyone know how long I can expect to be in the matching process before a decision is made. Thanks

Hi Maddie,

I understand that I may be leaving this a bit late but I was wondering what is the key difference between the business and technical roles available to apply for, during the gap year scheme? I would say Mathematics is my strong point and so I would prefer whichever is more Maths based!

Thanks

Hello,

Like you said with regards to the futures scheme, I remember seeing the 31st March 2016 as the deadline. I just recently checked and it says the 30th April 2016 for both the 2016 Futures schemes - is this true, or is the deadline really tomorrow? I would be grateful to know as soon as possible.

Thanks

Hey!

What scheme are you currently in matching for?

Our matching process is dependent on what managers are looking to hire and when, so we can never give a definite time scale I'm afraid!

Hey!

We've extended our Futures applications until end of April so not too late at all. The Technology roles tend to involve software development, working on applications, technical project management. The Business roles are a mixture of project management, market research and operations.

If you really enjoy Mathematics then maybe apply for a Business role and state a preference for a Finance type role. However when you're in the recruitment process you will have plenty of opportunity at the assessment centre and interview to talk to a manager about what you'd most like to do.

Good luck with your application!

Hey!

Like it says on our website, the Futures scheme deadline is now 30th April 2016 so you have a bit more time yet to get your application in!

Good luck and don't hesitate to ask if you have any more questions,

Thank you! With regards to location, is it likely that my location would be sympathetic to where I live, or is it anywhere like it says on the job description?

It's likely that you'll be based in Portsmouth, Winchester (Southampton) or London, but when you're in the recruitment process you can state a preference and we'll try match you up with something that suits you. However we do advice it's best to be as flexible as possible and part of the experience would be living somewhere a bit different!

Hi,

I am in matching for the 'Future schemes 12 month Business role', it is due to start on the 16/17th of July I believe. I recieved the email about 2 months ago... Is this abnormally long to wait, or can I just assume I didn't get it?

Thanks for the help.
