How can I figure out the approximate ph range of an indicator from the pka value of the indicator?

The pKa coincides with the exact mid point pH of the colour change ...
Agree with charco, you can estimate the pH range as one unit either side of the indicators pka value.

Example: the pKa value of methyl orange is 3.7, therefore the pH range for the colour change is approximately 2.7-4.7.

Hope that helps - if you need more help you can check out my totally free website www.scienceskool.co.uk
