How hard is it getting into art foundation diploma courses?

The title pretty much says it all. I'd love to study at Manchester Metropolitan University or Bournemouth but I have no idea what % of applicants receive offers or how hard it is to get in! What do you think?

This is a question it is impossible for anyone to answer because it is all about the quality of your work and your potential, which we can't see and which is different from academic results. MMU can be quite picky. Don't know about Bournemouth.

Hi Lauragg,

Unfortunately I don't know how many applications this course recieves at Bournemouth. However you could try and ask their enquiry team:

They may be able to shed more light on your question.

Good luck with the application.

That's unlikely to work - BU doesn't offer the Art Foundation it's offered by Arts University Bournemouth

Most foundation diploma courses will ask you to attend an interview and present a portfolio before they make an offer.

Because they aren't UCAS courses the deadlines are different (for example for AUB there isn't a deadline but they recommend applying before end March http://aub.ac.uk/plan-visit-apply/apply-now/?utm_source=shorturl&utm_medium=link&utm_term=apply&utm_campaign=Marketing ) The deadline for MMU was 11 December last year http://www.art.mmu.ac.uk/foundation/

There's advice on most university websites about what they expect to see in your portfolio - universities know that you're applying for the diploma to give you the time and opportunity to build up a really strong portfolio so the portfolio you need to start the diploma doesn't need to be at university level. There's also some advice on which: http://university.which.co.uk/advice/ucas-application/putting-together-your-portfolio-students-top-tips
