I think I messed up my interview

One of the questions they asked was 'Why did you choose [insert course here]?' and I answered with 'Why not?'. Did I screw it up?
It all depends on what followed on from the "why not" statement! What did you say?

Was there a particular reason why you answered with that?
That question is literally the most asked uni interview question so why not prepare before hand?
If you did well in the rest of the interview, they may overlook it - but on a whole it just makes you sound disinterested in their course prompting them to think that you probably won't firm if they did give you an offer
