English Lit and English Studies are usually the same thing - all literature. English Lit and Language will include English Language in their course: the change of the english language, language in social contexts, language acquisition, etc etc. So if you only want to study novels, drama and poetry, avoid english language at all costs. But do make sure you read the course descriptions for each respective uni when doing your research, because Englihs studies MIGHT include some language........its all very particular to each individual uni.

my first degree was in english studies. it's called "studies" because it's broader than typical english lit (embracing things like linguistics and semiotics). there is a heavy emphasis on literature, but literature is not the only unit of study.
