Yay, Maths! So, is everyone looking forward to math tomorrow?!
Should be buckets of fun, I can't wait! Especially integrals... I LOVE integrals.
*looks longingly at razor blade*
What level does everyone do? And do you feel unprepared no matter how much studying you do, or is it just me?
Higher math students, what are you hoping won't be on the exam tomorrow? (I'm hoping they won't have too many differential equation and normal distribution questions for instance) Is anyone else doing the Sets, Relations, and Groups topic? And (just making sure!) you only need to know proof by induction for paper 2 right?
-
Re: Yay, Maths!
Proof by induction will not come up in paper 1 because it is worth too many points
.
I'm not fully prepared, need to look at some vector questions and composite functions now for a few hours, but then I think it will be okay.
I want as much calculus/algebra as possible, as little statistics as possible... -

Re: Yay, Maths!(Original post by ELIS)
However I'm begging to God that they wont ask too much on distrobutions and probability.
probablilty is just ugly! UGLY I SAY!
but they're probably gnna get a huge chunk of it on paper 2! I have a feeling they wanna screw us over! so I'm studying it extra carefully! better safe than sorry -
Re: Yay, Maths!
Doing Relations, Groups and Sets too, happily we get another week to prepare for that.
As for induction, yeah I think these are more paper 2 type of question.
For tomorrow I wish not to get equations/inequalities involving various trig. functions in different powers ... Generally I hate any trig. functions. -
Re: Yay, Maths!
HL here, though I still have no idea why. I'll be bringing the curve down for you other HL people tomorrow and Tuesday!
We're doing Set, Relations and Groups as our option too. To be honest, I actually prefer it to the core. I think it's fun.
Oh boy, me too.(Original post by The_Luvbster)

Re: Yay, Maths!
im doing methods.. most past papers seem do-able
HOWEVER, did anyone do this year's 'specimen' paper 2 (we did it for a second maths mock exam after first mocks was N06)? It's the most difficult exam I ever sat! I just don't get most of it! I got 79% on paper 1, but on paper 2 I did hideously (35%.. and I usually never get below a 5).. now I'm terrified of tuesday! -

Re: Yay, Maths!I did it for my mock as well! it was very hard! but the specimens are usually harder than the actual papers.. I mean did you do Nov and May 06? they were childs play! I got a low 7 in the specimen (just a grade above the 6(Original post by domesticpig)

) and got a high 7 in the other two
so don't worry
but I have a hunch that there's going to be alot of probability questions and statistics.. infact have a look at the Nov 06 paper
there was a tricky question about the box plot

Re: Yay, Maths!Osmosis, I'm like you in the sense that I don't know why I'm doing higher! Well... I kind of do, my dad's a mathematician and he pressurized me into it, but I've been kicking myself for it for the past two years

HJV, I'm hoping you do studies! *pats*
As for the option vs core thing, I completely agree... Sets, Relations, and Groups (or sex relations in groups - what my mom once misheard it as) makes so much more sense than the core. And yes, it is sort of (just a teeeeny bit) fun... especially finding the cyclic generators and the orders of different elements in a group and shtuff.
Although there's a lot of proofs to learn.
Anyway, best of luck for tomorrow everyone! I'm hoping we won't be needing it and that we all [well, not all of us, we don't want the great boundaries to be too high] nail this thing!! -
Re: Yay, Maths!
Im doing Maths studies... i did first year maths standard and then did IB YR1 end of year exam for maths studies and got a low 6 without any studying... at the moment from all the past papers im at a high 6.. And if my IA grade is correct then i can only lose ~32 marks across both papers..
How the hell am i going to manage that!?
Really want a 7 in maths too..
