I am a grade 12 student and study further maths.
If you find maths hl is fine, definitely further maths is fine to you as well.
Further maths covers all options of hl, matrix (which is removed from hl syllabus) and geometry ( I find this chapter is the hardest personally) .
Actually, the question of hl options in FM exam is a little bit harder than that in hl. But you can use past papers of hl options for practice.
FM is not required to any areas of major for you application to universities even though you want to apply mathematics. If you want do know more about maths, just do it.
