I'm going to one next weekend on a date and I like to be prepared beforehand so I don't start panicking when we get there. We're going to Polpo. I've only ever ordered pasta but I think its good to try something new. Any recommendations??

Just had a look at the menu, and it looks pretty awesome and quite unique compared to a lot of Italian restaurants with relatively little pasta. Italians do great hearty meat dishes, the ones that stand out to me are the duck ragu & gnocchi (gnocchi are almost like a crossover between pasta and potato), pork belly & apple, and the flank steak. The cod cheeks sound great too.
Ask the waiters/waitresses what they would recommend, or look at the specials board and see if anything tickles your fancy off that. Alternatively, check out some TripAdvisor reviews beforehand and see what people suggest.
Italian food is consider to be a happy food and accessible with tons of flavour. What would you think if it’s spaghetti, lasagna and pizza on your table? These could be the most favoured Italian food.

Pizza is always a good idea to eat at an Italian restaurant, no matter what kinds of toppings. Escalope dishes also tastes very good. Some Italian restaurants offer an escalope with cheese sauce, that is very recommendable. You should give that a try.
Never seen in Italian restaurants. Seems not to be a typical dish.*
It's very common in good Italian restaurants, It's one of the main things I eat when in Italy. Maybe less common in cheaper chain style restaurants though.

I see. As I have never seen those main things on menus when I ate out in Italian restaurants, I guess they were just a part of cheaper chain restaurants.*
