Hello,

I am getting really confused with the laws of Logs! Especially the change the base rule.

Currently trying to answer this question:

Log3Z = 4Logz3

Solve for Z.

I know I need to change the base to three - just getting a litte confused as to how.

Any step by step instructions would be appreciated!

It not easy to see what you mean. What is the base of the logs? Write it like log_3(10) which is log to base 3 of 10.

there is a rule which allows you to swap base and argument

If it's any use, remember that log_a (b)=[log_c(b)]/[log_c(a)] and c can be any base you choose.
So log_a(b) = 1/log_b(a)

This, I know is a really stupid question, but why does X = 3 as well as b...?

3 is both the new base and the number logged in the original.
