You typically need an MEng or MSc but with some engineering PhDs aren't that competitive and may allow entry with just a BEng.

FdEng is not a bachelors degree. You could start with one but you'd need to progress to BSc (or BEng) and then more usually MSc before PhD.

Why not complete an MEng and then look at doing the PhD. Funding is more straightforward.

Why do you want to do a PhD?.Get started on your BEng before you start worrying about this.

Although your BEng uni would be a good (but not the only place) to do some initial research on PhDs available to you.
