Tsars - peasants 'soul of Russia', Communists - workers 'heart of the Revolution'

We got this question today to plan, and I really have no idea how to do it. I've done some points, but don't really know how to structure it.

*sigh* I can't do these synoptic essays.

Here is the question anyway:

"To the tsars, the peasants were the soul of Russia. To the Communists, the workers were the heart of Revolution"

How accurate do you consider this statement for the period 1855-1956?

Thanks

I guess you could make a point about the way in which theory clashed awkwardly with reality for the Bolsheviks. For example, although the workers were at the centre of their Marxist schema, due to the USSR's backward, agrarian economy, the peasantry was actually crucial: by increasing grain exports they could secure the foreign capital investment Russia badly needed (machines for industry etc.). Hence the need for collectivisation.

That's true, and I think I mentioned that. Thanks a lot!
