Vocational qualification for engineering

I'm considering applying for undergraduate engineering courses , have browsed several websites ,they all mentioned Vocational Qualification is quite important , I'm in the first year of sixth form ,will it be too late for me to look for a vocational qualification?
I know BTEC higher national , is this suitable for me ,how do I start?

What do you mean by "vocational qualification"? As long as you have A-levels/Highers/IB you will get in.
