A Spanish civil servant who failed to turn up for work for "at least" six years has been caught after becoming eligible for a long service award.

Mr Garcia said he had been a victim of political bullying in the job and moved to a post where there was no work to do.

A civil servant, who takes money from taxpayers for a job that he doesn't do, for 6 years, is by no means an inspiration

He and his bosses are (one of) the reasons Souther Europe is doing so badly

From the perspective of the tax payer, yes. From the perceptive of the individual worker, this guy is on to something. When you enter the world of work, you'll realise some people work hard and some work smart. It's the latter than maximise their income for minimal effort.
