Malala is still around - she was campaigning for education for Syrians, last I heard

She now does a lot of debating things from what I've heard, at least my friend is competing against her soon I think.

In Saudi Arabia, women are executed regularly for being a victim of rape, apostasy, blasphemy, sex outside of marriage, false prophecy and all sorts of non-crimes.

They have stones thrown at them until they die.

As soon as a coffee shop bans women, feminists go mental. (It's not even Starbucks making this rule, it's the Saudi authorities).

Priorities.

I hope they are aware that their online rants about Starbucks aren't going to make the Saudi government change. This isn't a Starbucks rule.

It just shows you how self serving and selfish western radical feminism is. They only look to advocate for frivolous things such as 'free the nipple' and 'slut walks' meanwhile their fellow female counterparts in other countries are being sold into sex slavery. Some of them couldn't give a **** and they call right wingers racist

What ever happened to the genuine crusaders for women's rights like Malala?

It's an interesting one. If your movement is based around achieving rights for women, what do you do once your society has progressed to having equal rights for women?

The obvious answer would be to strive for this for women who still do not have anywhere near equal rights. For example, in many places, rape is legal within marriage because the wife is the property of the husband. Many feminists actually do campaign for these things.

Unfortunately there are quite a few absolute idiots who instead of this, now just look for things to shout about in their society where they have equal rights or else they would have to ask difficult questions of certain other cultures but they're too pussy to do it. So they create campaigns like this, Slutwalk and other nonsensical wastes of time instead and make all the other feminists look bad and deluded by association. They did jack when Maryam Namazie was no platformed by Warwick and when the Goldsmiths ISOC sabotaged her talk at their university.

Like you say, feminism is very badly needed in much of the world and there are feminists out there who strive for betterment of the lot of women in these places. It's just frustrating that they often get overshadowed by the pointless fools like those in this article. That's when they're not being smeared and silenced by fascist Islamofascists and their useful idiots of course.

Welcome to the world of third-wave feminism - screw equality, let's cherry-pick the things that annoy first-world white girls and turn them into a Twitter fight until their self-serving ("empowering" needs are fulfilled.

But in all seriousness, this is pathetic. It's quite obvious who's at fault here, and it's not Starbucks for ****'s sake. It's the government that imposed the law in the first place. Anyone who proudly labels themselves a "feminist" should be competent enough to be against the source of the sexism, not the victim of it (a chain such as Starbucks).

Then again, the feminist movement is clearly growing out-of-date these days. I'll be happy when it dies out - it's sad how today's feminists care more about 'rape culture' and empowering vagina bags more than situations in countries such as Saudi Arabia and ACTUAL ignorance of sexual assault in several regions of Brazil and Africa. As a female myself, I can easily tell you that feminism is simply completely out of touch with what equality really means. Egalitarianism - or equalism, in other words - is the only movement out there that cares about every genders' problems without centralising it around one gender (feminism bases men's rights on women's problems, for example).

The pussy pouch is white privileged, look how the skin tone doesn't match that of the poor oppressed Asian girl in the photo.

Gotta love that it costs $350, this is the best thing I've seen all week. All power to Feinberg, the designer, for taking money off idiot punters whose main social concern is that "male subway riders lounge around with their legs splayed every which direction and their briefcases strewn about, while female riders cram theirbodies and their retinue of belongings into a single seat."

It is OK to only really be concerned about what goes on in your own country. What Western feminists should do if they have integrity is start fighting for men's rights.

You know... men get crucified over there in Saudi land for writing a political blog yet all you do is cry over how undemocratic the EU is. Why? Why are you not crying about how undemocratic and totalitarian Saudi Arabia is? The EU sketpics are a joke talking about lack of democracy in Europe when Saudi Arabia exists lol. I dont want to hear a word of the out campaign from you unless you mention Saudi Arabia inbetween sentences. OK?

I thought you were supposed to be a well read intelligent guy (or girl?). SO why are you making such nonsense arguments?

I bet they're not angry with the Saudi "government" because that would be "racist" or "culturally insensitive", so they're aiming it at the corporation who makes coffee too expensive for them

I doubt that, most feminists are too wrapped up in their little bubble to even know about Saudi Arabia, Islam, etc etc., much less corporations and the economy. Essentially the rank and file are too thick to follow even such a simple trail of breadcrumbs.

Right wingers always harp on about this supposed conspiracy between feminists, socialists and Islamists, it seems like utter fantasy to me and a cheap way to discredit people they don't like. The Saudi Arabian government and their various Wahhabi outriders have of course been enthusiastically supported by the neoliberal West for the past 40 years.

Not in this case. Feminists are speaking out against the situation for Saudi Arabian women cruelly denied their triple mochachocalattes in Saudi Arabia, when there are other more pressing matters at hand in that country. But Europhobes are speaking out against the way the EU impacts on ourselves as British people, when there are not really (m)any more pressing matters at hand in Europe.

The equivalent would be to worry about the lack of democracy in the Middle East before stopping them slaughtering each other. We saw how silly it was to worry about the lack of democracy there when we tried to impose it on Iraq. The region had, and has, much more immediate problems.

Have you ever considered there is a reason those ones don;t get in headlines... ?

They still exist.

People on this site just filter out all the feminists/feminism that doesn't fit with their outrage view of feminism. It's closed echo chamber.
I don't understand why people have such a problem with "western feminism", anyone with an ounce of psychological knowledge is aware that sexism still exists in Western cultures, just like racism still exists. Yes it might not be as severe as third world countries but that doesn't make it any less of a problem for us, the people actually living in the society.

I mean shall we take that attitude with everything in our country? Stop charity and activist groups who fight for child poverty in Wales for example, because kids in other countries are left to fend for themselves on the street and haven't the opportunity to go to school. So because there are worse examples of child poverty out there, we shouldn't focus on our own problems? I mean those kids in the Valleys have all the opportunities right? If you take that attitude then you are basically saying you do not care for the further development of our country.

Or, you may be just a little sexist yourself. It always reminds me of attitude items you get on racism scales which are very predictive of behaviours. There are often items such as "racism is no longer a problem in the US". Agreeance with that is a indicative of racist attitudes, and it's the same with this. Only those who are sexist themselves tend to completely disregard sexism in the UK. Either that or they are idiots.

Ok I'll give you that.

Don't pretend OP is talking about only this case though, however misguided or complete lack of priorities these people have, you can not just ignore the feminists who do focus on the more brutal aspects. I'd give examples but you guys just stick your fingers in your ears whenever I do.

No, I know they exist but the media doesn't exactly publish them. That's because the target audience, young Western women, is more likely to click an article about the coffee shop they waste money with every day than some brown girl in the desert who isn't allowed to go to school.

It's not the job of the media to make life better for women around the world, but it is the job of feminist organisations, who should be using the ample funding they receive to brief the media on such things.

Which feminists? What feminist campaign's?

And since I live in England, I am more concerned about this country than Saudi Arabia. I was merely pointing out the absence of feminists on this issue, which is a woman's issue.
