"Women should speak first".

http://unews.ca/ladies-first-smu-prof-suggests-classroom-rule/

This is according to Judy Haiven at a Dal forum on misogyny.

Women should be allowed to speak first in classroom discussions to stop men from "monopolising these forums".

This isn't the first time such a rule has been suggested.

they can try :smug:
Stupidest Idea i have ever heard, almost as bad as the Ban Bossy campaign
Women already outperform men in public examinations. Surely men need extra help to combat the entrenched systemic misandry in the matriarchal educational environment? This suggestion would simply increase women's educational privilege even further.

To be honest, using the typical feminist logic, we should really have a quota system for public examination results, whereby the top grades have to be equally distributed between men and women, regardless of actual exam performance.
this is so racist. women are so racist.

Haha thanks, this actually did make me laugh. PRSOM - I get where you're coming from but not all women think in the same way and I disagree with you. That being said, I'm still against the 'Women should speak first' idea.

This attitude perpetuates a lot of people's educational life, and I think we should stick with our gender neutral rule at the moment.

I'd actually like to see a 'different but equal policy' with a certain amount of women being necessary to address women's issues, it's rather clear to me that social qualities are just that, qualities we get from socialising and not biology.
The only way to gender equality is to treat all genders equally, equal oppportunities and equal rewards, this plan makes absolutely no sense and only further perpetuates the idea that women are victimised. Dumb idea
The only place a woman should be able to speak is in the kitchen to let the men know dinner is ready.
Women shouldn't speak unless spoken too.
Great idea. Then we can correct them straight after.

Surely the men would also have to be in the kitchen?
Helll no. I hate the sound of it because I hate these discussions anyway.

Unless, of course, your name is DB :colonhash:

You should let your future girls know that
Personally I'm a psycho bitch so it's never been the case in any of my relationships.
There's plenty of ways to encourage girls to participate without making it some weird rule that no boy can contribute until a girl has... keeping discussions controlled and orderly will mean girls feel more able to butt in rather than feeling they have to be able to shout the loudest to say anything, asking for 'hands up', or even just calling the class out and stating that the girls aren't taking part and you want to hear from someone...

I don't think we need to disregard women in education just because they are currently more successful, no point evening out a gap by dragging another group down... but girls being assertive and confident is something which should certainly be encouraged as it will help them a lot going forward in life
