Is £400 too cheap to cheap a quote for Head gasket repalcement ?
My car - 2006 mk2 focus 1.8 TDCI Sport
I had a chemical test on my car which revealed head gasket as gone.
Told my friend who is a qualified master technician and runs his own repairs business from home, he said he would replace head gasket (inc timing belt) for £400, all in including parts and labor. he said it would cost an extra £30 for head skim so around £430.
He says he won't replace valve stem seals as current ones seem fine, I'm getting no smoke whatsoever.
I just wondered, is £400 inc parts ( not inc head skim) too cheap for head gasket ? I've had head gasket's replaced before costing more than that and I just want to make sure he will do the job properly and not cut corners.
(garage charged £950 to replace HG 9 months ago, later found out they only did water pump, anyway went back to tell them it was gone again but seems they are not offering any solution )
