Anyone here got an offer for Psychology this year? I am applying for Psychology for 2017 entry and would appreciate any tips for applying/personal statement etc. Thank you :smile:

Hey! Recently firmed my offer to study Sociology and Social Policy at Bath! Just wondering if there's anyone else planning to study the same course? Or anyone with any advice on how to survive in uni!

I firmed Sociology a few weeks back. All the social and policy science students have a common first year, so we kinda are studying the same course, at least for the first year anyway :tongue:

Applied for Pharmacy, I'm from Oxford and I did Biology, Chem & Psychology at A Level 😊
Looking at Norwood, Westwood or Marlborough/Solsbury!
So excitedddd

Hi there!

I'm a first year Computer Science student here at Bath.

Your personal statement is a chance to give us any other information that you feel might be useful to us when we are considering your application. There is no one 'correct' way to write a personal statement; they tend to be most helpful when they are frank and individual.

Do tell us why you want to study psychology and give examples of any experience in psychology or a related field, any reading or research and any extra-curricular achievements on which you can draw.

We give preference to applicants who can demonstrate the following:

•

evidence of a strong interest in Psychology demonstrated by extra-curricular activity, research or work experience

•

evidence of study in addition to core subjects such as additional AS level(s), additional A2 level(s) (including Critical Thinking) or a relevant Extended Project.

Naturally, Eastwood has by far the best atmosphere because it is arranged into multiple blocks of houses of about 13 people a piece, forming multiple very close communities. Furthermore, since virtually all of the facilities are shared from kitchen space to bathrooms, you learn to get on with your peers very well. Compared to high-end, better-than-thou, En-Suites, the shabby nature of the accommodation leads to a unique team-building experience. Whereas at Eastwood you learn key skills, at the upper class ones you get your own everything, leading to an exceptionally antisocial convergence of royalties.

I think the accommodations with student lounges/social spaces would be the most sociable as they provide an area for the flat to hang out. These include Norwood, Brendon, Woodland and Polden Courts & The Quads. I don't think this should be the only deciding factor when choosing an accommodation because you can also use the kitchen as a social space for those accommodations that don't have designated social areas.

I think you can learn to get on with your peers, learn 'key skills' and achieve a 'unique team-building experience' in whatever accommodation you're in. They're all pretty similar in this aspect in my opinion.

Also, don't think certain accommodations are an 'upper-class' luxury, because that's not true. That notion suggests a sort of class inequality when all members from every class can opt for an en-suite room or a catered room if they want one and can afford it.
Bear in mind, of course, that the social lounges are overrated. I speak from experience of friends who are at Bath when I say that they are consistently unused. People tend to hang out with their closest friends in the accommodation as opposed to randoms down at the lounge. Hence why Eastwood is so good, as there is a lounge exclusive to the 12 people with whom you share the accommodation, meaning you get to know those very well.

In terms of socialising with others, it doesn't really matter where you live. At the start you get to socialise with people in your area, and then you make friends and have contacts in other accommodations that invite you to drink there.

Within your own house... :dontknow: as above, you'll find that you want to get to know a few people in your own house but you're not going to become best friends with all of them. In Eastwood there was a table area and groups of people sat there from time to time but I for one just spent time sitting on other people's beds in their rooms to socialise.
