What is Dundee like?

I've applied for Maths and Dundee looks like my first choice and when I went over I got a great impression of the university but a bad impression of the city and I'm wondering what Dundee as a city is actually like? Thanks!

I think the city is pretty decent to be honest.
Decent pubs, a couple of Wetherspoons', enough shops, good train connection to Edinburgh, a Tesco, close to the beach, close-ish to the mountains. When I went out at night for drinks it seemed pretty safe and chilled out.
