Re: Another strange vegetable I sawDepends on which type of "Asian" store you're asking.(Original post by advice_guru)
I'm guessing that is the English name for it, but if I were to ask in the asian stores?
The main consumers of this type of veg, is in South East Asia. By this I mean Vietnam, Laos, Camboadia, China, Taiwan, Phillipines, Malaysia, Pakistan, India and Japan.
They each have their different names, but if you can describe it as a "Bitter, green veg with ridges and seeds inside" then they can probably point you in the right direction.
This veg is VERY bitter actually btw. -

Re: Another strange vegetable I sawyh I think I've heard the name Bhindi somewhere.(Original post by mr hyde)
In English it's called okra or lady's fingers, but in India and Pakistan people call it bhindi. Either way you'll be understood. And when I've had it it's never been bitter? I think it depends on the way you cook it.
I was worried cos I don't think I'd heard the word Okra really. -
