Yet again there is a wealth of misinformation in this thread.
Maths is only required by one college at Cambridge and only Cambridge requires three sciences. No university 'prefers' maths. If they wanted you to have it, it would be a requirement.
OP, if you find gcse maths hard, don't do a level. You need to pick subjects you enjoy and will get an A in (after bio and chem). With the a level reforms it's possible a fourth subject won't be necessary.
And a level maths really doesn't help that much with a medical degree.
