Strain Energy
Hi,
I'm slightly confused as to how to work out the strain energy from an extension - force graph. I know it's the area under the graph but none of my notes make it clear as to whether it's the area under the graph upto the elastic limit or the area under the entire graph.
Which area is it?

Thanks for any help!
Its the area right up to whatever point you want to calculate the energy. Beyond the elastic point , you dont get all the energy back when you release the force - some is converted to heat in a process similar to hysterisis.
