Alternatives to Veterinary?

What are some academically challenging careers working with animals? I'm looking into alternatives for veterinary, just in case!
Thanks!

Off the top of my head, Marine Biologist, Zoologist or working in an abattoir.

Would you be willing to work with animals in a lab setting? It wouldn't necessarily involve invasive procedures, but I know it's not something everyone would be comfortable with. If it's something you're willing to do, it can be a good career for people, and there are often opportunities for progression. Also, if you find you are interested by the research their are often opportunities to do a masters or PhD as well.

A lot of people who go into this type of career will study a subject like Animal Behaviour and Welfare or Zoology at uni and gain experience with lab work while at uni through studentship projects and/or their dissertation.
