My best friend applied for Law  :p: Needless to say she got rejected. Although she did make the LSE shortlist!

Some biomedical courses certainly reject people... UCL for example. I'm not just saying that because I'm going there lol, 3 of my friends got rejected from there.

How did they rejected? I got an offer with a medicine PS and didn't even go to the compulsory interview/open day thing!

i applied for natsci because of the vague chance of grad entry and it seems to follow naturally for me because i like all the sciences, but especially biology so i'd be able to diversify before specialising in a science before applying again. In any case, i would have just taken a gap year and reapplied if hadn't got an offer but thankfully that didn't happen.
I already told you this before becca!

I'm going to apply for Biochemistry as my backup, because I geunily really like biochem. And yeah I'll be really pissed off that I didn't get in (IF I don't get in), but I can justify reasons not to medicine as well as reasons to.

I'll memorise all our random conversations in future :p:

I'm still debating it :frown: But I think it'd depend on the nature of my rejection IF I got rejected.

But some options would be to take up chemistry/physics here in sweden, or go for another undergraduate course or take a gap year.

If I take another course, then I think it would be psychology, genetics, natural science, optometry or.....hell I don't know!!! :frown:
Would the people at the unis/courses you've put down as your back-ups not be a bit pissed off that your whole personal statement is geared towards medicine?

I'd probably do a gap year, but my other 2 places I'd put Occupational Therapy or Physiotherapy.

Oh yeh, and the 5 choices thing, is that people applying this year? (ie. me?)
OT and Physiotherapy are pretty oversubscribed...particularly in Scotland and Ireland. My mate put both as her insurances and got rejected from both (six straight rejections actually).

Damn! Well that's what I'm gonna do if I dont get my higher results for medicine anyway.

Hmmm gap and reapply then definately. Genetics as back-up maybe.
That said you're Scottish - big big advantage :p:

Hmmm...thanks everyone, I think I need to spend more time considering what the hell i want to do, but that will be after my exams , of course!!

The 5 options thing is true as far as I know - it's what my school's been saying all this year, and they're normally pretty good on that sort of thing.

I'll probably put something down as my 5th option, even though I don't really intend on taking it. Psychology seems interesting, or possibly Biology...
Is it possible to apply for chemical eng. with a medicine PS? I applied for medicine and got rejected from 3 w/o an interview and 1 with.

Imperial have chem eng. in Extra and I was thinking either sending my app of for that or taking a gap year. Declined my Biomedical Sci. offers at Cardiff and KCL (just not for me.)

Im predicted AAB btw and AABB at AS (but I'm so, so confused!)

Does extra look at your personal statement?
I belive they may not...
I applied for Chem Eng and got an uncondit without vaguely mentioning it in my P.S.
But, Imperial's a competitive place I hear so they might want a P.S.
Not sure.
Classic, Theodore.

They get sent the same app that goes to the origianl uni's that you applied to. So maybe.

Where did you apply, if you don't mind me asking.

And I really haven't fully decided yet if I want to do chem eng, I've read its a good career, but I messed up AS chem but now have a B after resits. This was probably the reason I did not get any med offers (had AABC at the time of sending my app off:mad: was soo gutted at getting a C in chem) The standard Imperial offer is ABB though.

I applied to Edinburgh University and the University of Strathclyde, both for Chem Eng.
True, I'm Scottish and if we get an offer it tends to be unconditional, but it does show that you don't necessarily have to mention it in your statement to get an offer.
For my back up this year I chose to apply for neuroscience, however if i didn't get an offer for med this year I would have reapplied.
Cheers Theodore. I'm going to see how it goes.

I totally didn't notice that... Aaah
