Please could someone tell me: how many contact hours are there and hours of self-study for joint honours French/ Spanish? I'd also be interested to know what you do if you are on a different degree.

It will vary from course to course and uni to uni. Have a look at the relevant uni's website, and if you can't find the info on their website, then contact them and ask.
