The average age will still be young, in the region of 25-27 I'd imagine. Personally, I'd much rather that than spending time with a bunch of over-excited 18 year olds getting their first taste of independence.

Apparently the average age for an undergrad is "early- to mid-twenties" -

Could anyone give an insight to the experience of mature student NOT in Harris Manchester, i ask because i plan to apply for 2017 entry, will be 25 upon entry (if i get in of course) BUT i'll be applying for physics, which is not currently offered by Harris Manchester

If i had the choice i would choose Harris Manchester, but i don't. I'm just interested in the experience of those who, for whatever reason, are in 'normal' colleges, how many other mature students are there in their college and other 'normal' colleges, socially speaking do they gravitate towards Harris Manchester and/or older post grad students in their college? of course i'm sure a 20 something's experience in a non mature student college would probably be different to a 30 something's or a 40 something's experience, and obviously you will have a chance to meet and interact with different people through your course and extra curricular activities such as sports teams or whatever but considering prospective students are constantly told that their college plays a big role in the years they will spend there and the big hoo-ha regarding choosing your college i think it would be nice for us mature students who don't have Harris Manchester (or even the permanent private halls) as an option to get some advise

even if you are at Harris Manchester, it would be nice to know about your perspective or experience regarding any mature students you may know at other colleges, particularly if they are reading a subject not available at Harris Manchester, like physics (sorry for the essay by the way)

We had a couple at Merton. What tends to happen is that they socialise with the graduates rather than the undergrads.

Hey guys so im going to be 21 if i attend oxford at harris manchester college next year. I kind of applied to oxford without knowing much and didnt realise that harris manchester was a mature college. Now im rather hesitant as there is going to be quite a bit of age disparity compared to the other students. Anyone from the college here? What is the average age like and hows the social life?

Hey, I'm a fellow Singaporean too. Congratulations on your law offer! Just wanted to ask you if you did your interviews through skype or you flew to the uk to do them?

I'm 31 and originally applied to Magdalen, cause I thought a mature college would be full of sixty years olds. Got sent up to Harris Manchester for extra interviews, and realized I was totally wrong. Most people were 21-35, with just a couple of 'really old' types (sorry ).

Though everyone at Magdalen was cool, I'm definitely pleased I got an offer from HMC. Also, you will still get sent to other colleges for most papers you sit, so that breaks it up nicely.

Where you from and what are you gonna apply for?

if you don't mind me asking how did/are you getting on at HMC? when you applied to Magdalen how did undergrads/tutors react to your age at interview etc? if they had not referred you to HMC do you think you would have enjoyed the experience at Magdalen than what you know now of HMC? do you think your age would've had negative implications on your social life at that particular college? and if you don't mind me asking, it may be obvious, but did they offer you unto to HMC because of your age?

thanks in advance !
