2. It's a method of working out how many people of a particular characteristic (exam boards like the characteristic of same year group) would be in a random sample out of everyone.

You work it out really easily by using the following formula:

number of people in group / total population x sample size

For example, a question may ask: how many year 9 girls will be in a sample of 50 students?

After this, there will most likely be a table where you will be given or have to work out the total number of students by simply adding up, and then looking at how many year 9 girls there are. For this example, lets say there's 120 year 9 girls and 1300 students in total.

Then you'd substitute the numbers into the equation:

120 (number in group) / 1300 (total population) x 50 (sample size)

whatever you get you must round to the nearest whole number
