University of Essex - Computer science + General information

Hi Everyone!

I have applied to study computer science with a foundation year included at the University of Essex. Unfortunately i am yet to hear back from them regarding an offer. I really would like to have a place at the university as i have heard nothing but good things, so any information would be handy to know regarding what the best accommodation is and how good the facilities are at the university. I like going to the gym quite often and also love to eat and socialise as much as the next person! Any information would be greatly appreciated .

Regards,

Cameron.

Hello Cameron

I am happy to reply to your questions  Indeed, the university of Essex is popular for various degrees, including languages, computer science, maths, economics and so on. The best accommodation in my opinion, is South Courts and the University Quays. South Courts are within the campus, they are spacious, and en-suite. You share the kitchen area with another 5 people and you have easy and quick access to your class and lecture in 5 minutes! The disadvantage is that there parties quite often in South Courts and that might interrupt your studying or your sleep, but that depends on your character, if that is going to annoy you. In the University Quays I lived in my first year of studies. The rooms are quite spacious, classic en-suite and there is sharing of the kitchen area with 5 other people. It is 15 minute walk away from the uni and there is also a bus which goes to the town and the uni too  I really enjoyed it there, it is quiet as well. There is a gym within the campus and as far as I know it is big, with all the facilities there and the membership fees are within reasonable limits. Other facilities that the uni offers are quite good such as cafes, cinema, restaurants, study rooms etc. In overall, Essex is ranked second in student satisfaction after the 2014 survey

Hope that helps!
