A2 AQA Spanish speaking region

Can you do a spanish-speaking country? From reading others' posts here it seems you can. I see a lot of people doing Mexico or Cuba or other countries. I was under the impression that if it is in Spain, you have to do a region in Spain and not the whole country, but if outside Spain you can do a whole country.

However, my teacher says that's not the case (even if the textbook suggests a whole country).

So what is it?

Slightly late reply, but I'm doing Peru as my topic, and my teacher said it's fine to do all of Peru , not just a region of it
