Obesity is a disease?

    I suppose it is a disease, but I think I prefer the term condition. Obese can be used as a descriptive term for someone who has a BMI over 30, it can be viewed as a condition where someone has excess body fat to the extent that it has a negative effect on their health. The American Heart Association treat it as a disease, with the intention that it will make medical staff focus on treating it more aggressively. However I think this could also lead to people who are obese to use the label of it being a disease to "excuse" their condition on it being a disease and something out of their control, when potentially it's something they could take control of themselves.

    Then surely metabolism becomes the excuse?
    I can imagine that there are consultants who may help in terms of obesity by metabolism. Even if I don't know what would be helpful.
