Guys - would you date/marry a teacher?

Would you date (with the view of eventually marrying) a secondary school teacher? Or would you view her as unambitious?

I would. If he/she has passion in teaching, I'd encourage him/her more and to me that's ambitious.
Yeah, teaching is a respectable profession, and they would usually have free time compared to other jobs

Well, if you want to become a primary school teacher, I certainly wouldn't let potential dates stop you from doing what you want to do. Also, if anyone doesn't want to date you purely because of your job, it reflects worse on them. They probably have some repressed issues about their Year 2 experience or something :smile:

True, my friend and I have always been the ones who put our education and career before relationships. Teaching is a decent job, if no one likes me because of that then I'll just be a cat lady :biggrin:

It really depends, there are many scenarios either way.

For example, if a women really loves working with children, and has *consciously* (after doing well in school for example) decided to be a nursary school teacher, that's just a genuine passion and I have respect for that.

Similarly, if a women is a lecturer at a top University because she has incredible passion and knowledge in a particular field, I also have incredible respect for that.

However, if a women didn't do well enough in school and therefore decided to be a teacher (yes it does happen let's not pretend it doesn't) then it may be off putting if I don't see evidence of her being a hard-working/ passionate person.

We're all different, but I personally find having a passion/ a good work ethic very attractive.

I don't give a damn about "ambition" if it refers to a desire for material success/status/a bucket-load of money. But if it means being passionate and hard working, then that is attractive. Anyhow it would depend on the person, though as far as careers go I suppose it's a relatively attractive one for a woman.
Most adults don't base the decision to marry someone on their career or career aspirations.
