preparing for SLT MSc

Hi,

I hoping someone can give some advice on what preparation would be most valuable to do before starting a Speech & Lang MSc this September.

I suspect that my background will be less relevant than many of the other ppl on the course, and have some spare time now to study, but haven't been sent a reading list or anything yet, and may not have so much time later on in the year.

So far I've started looking at phonetics, which is completely new to me. I'm also planning on revising some of the cognitive science and child development that I've done. Are there any other fields that I should spend some time on? I was wondering if I should brush up on statistics, but I don't know what kind of level of stats will be required, and it's not something I'd do for fun! I've not studied any kind of linguistics, so any tips on what else would be useful to look at from that would be welcome. Also any tips on good resources for ear-training for phonetic transcription would be great.

Thanks!
