Insurance choice accomodation?

Hi,
I have to make a choice between a high offer (AAA) from bath that i hope (but not sure) i can get , and an unconditional offer from birmingham.

I have seen both uni's, and like both. I think I may slightly prefer bath, but im not entirely sure. The issue is if i don't get the grades, and go to birmingham as insurance, what will happen with accommodation?

I know accommodation isn't guarenteed unless you firm - so what do people do? To me it is quite important to get an accommodation that allows socialising and meeting new people etc, so i would like to go to campus e.g. maple bank in birmingham.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated - don't really know what to do, and what options are available for insurance choice accommodation?
Thanks.

Different universities will offer different guarantees and support for insurance students.

It's up to you to do your research about what they offer and what you need to do.

Every year hundreds of students end up at their insurance without accommodation because they didn't do any research and didn't apply by the deadlines.

For Birmingham that means applying by 31 May: http://www.birmingham.ac.uk/study/accommodation/faqs.aspx#ApplyingforUniversityaccommodation

For Bath you would apply in August if they were your insurance choice: http://www.bath.ac.uk/guides/applying-for-university-accommodation/

Contact universities you're considering as insurance and ASK them how many insurance students were placed in halls in previous years. It's very often 100% of people who applied by the deadlines...but they leave in the option of refusing just in case they have unmanageable numbers of firm students.

Thankyou,
I am considering going for bath, and if i don't make the offer, deferring for a year and re-apply to my conditional (birmingham) to make sure i get accommodation.

Is this an option?

If you don't make your Bath offer AND they reject you (42% or more of people accepted by their firm last year missed their predictions by 2 or more grades....a LOT of students get into their firm with lower grades) then I'd recommend seeing if you get suitable accommodation this year.

If not then you don't need to reapply - just call up Birmingham if you're allocated accommodation you don't want and ask to defer your offer - the only thing you'll need to do next year would be to re-apply for student finance and to apply for accommodation again.

A mate of mine insured Birmingham and still had to apply for accommodation for them so thatd probably be the case for you too
