Can I use my home town as a case study?

e.g. if it's a settlement question, would I be penalised for it?

Has your teacher not given you some case studies you can use?

As long as it's relevant to the question and helps answer it then there's no reason why you couldn't. You definitely wouldn't get penalised for it
