Hes West Colleges - These are at the center of college life, on the main campus, Heslington West. The main advantage is the social life and shorter distances to travel (for subjects not on Heslington East)
James - Near the gym. Generally tends to be the sporty college. One the most central colleges. Good Social Life. Very near the YUSU bar.
Vanbrugh - Bit of an all rounder. Has free sport making it a rival for Derwent and James. It also has free access to music facilities and is home to many bands. Like James it has a good social life. Also a very central college. One of the two colleges with its own bar.
Derwent - Has asbestos but it also probably has the best reputation as a party college and probably has the highest college involvement. Like James and Vanbrugh they are very central. The other college with its own bar. Tend to hold more events on campus but less off campus.
Halifax - A bit separate from the other Hes West colleges. It is the largest college by far. Very close to the playing fields. Not near any campus bars.
Alcuin - A bit of a quiet college. Conveniently located near the library. Not near any campus bars.
Hes East Colleges - Tend to be brand new and most accommodation has ensuites. Social life isn't quite as good as hes west and it tends to be a bit cold and windy.
I don't know that much about these colleges as I don't go to Heslington East very often. Anyone else?
