state vs. independent school teacher training routes

Hello everyone,

Sorry if this has been covered elsewhere, but I am looking into teacher training as a career change and wondered if anyone could offer advice on the school direct/SCITT routes versus the hmc independent route?

I had no particular desire to teach in an independent school although a place has come up in a local school. As far as I can tell, both routes result in a PGCE and QTS, although the hmc route take 2 years instead of one. I dont yet know how they compare financially, but can anyone help with other advantages/disadvantages, quality of training and experience etc? In particular i am wondering if i completed a hmc course, how that training would be perceived if i subsequently wanted to apply for places in a state school?

Thanks,
Pete.
