Inexpensive restaurants in London for an anniversary?

Mine and s/o's anniversary is coming up and I wanted to treat them to a nice meal. Hopefully a nice place, and not an Italian chain place (not that they're not nice -- I'm just a bit bored and want something nicer). The problem of course arises once I remember that I can't afford much more than £25 per head if I want to treat us both. And really, even if we split the pay, being students is hard.

So I was wondering whether anyone's discovered an out-of-the-way place that's unexpectedly lovely, or just know a chain that doesn't feel like a chain and would suit an anniversary meal. I wouldn't mind staying in and cooking/ordering in, and that was the original plan, but we do it all the time. Want something more special on a budget :colondollar:

We live in East LDN so surrounding areas would be great; making a trip past SE would probably require it to be in a place where we can just generally hang out and do something nice apart from the meal.

Any sort of help would be greatly appreciated guys! Thanks! :h:

p.s., s/o really doesn't like Chinese hahha

Erm, this might sound a bit cheap skate, but what about something like GBK? I really love the food there, and if you're having say, a burger, chips, glass of wine/beer each, it'd probably come to around £15-20 per person!

(I had a kinda date at GBK, and it went well  ) I know it's still a chain, but when I went, it felt good!

East London way - http://rosasthaicafe.com/ (Brick Lane)

Bill's is always pretty good - https://bills-website.co.uk/

Central - a decent Vietnamese - http://www.comviet.co.uk/

Las Iguanas and their happy hour cocktails is always a winner too - http://www.iguanas.co.uk/

But I love dim sum, so Ping Pong would be top choice for me! - https://www.pingpongdimsum.com/

Hope this helps!

Masala Zone has several locations, all good and not too expensive in my experience. Very non-generic Indian food.

Edit: their webpage says about 30 pounds per head, but that includes drinks. If you take it easy on that, 25 should be manageable. And lunch will be a bit cheaper still.

Nearest to you will be Soho or Covent Garden.
