What are your experiences of doing CompSci/Compsci+Maths at top universities?

If you enjoy both CS and maths, I would advise you to look into Data Science as well. It is a new emerging, fast-growing field and combines all relevant components from both CS and mathematics.

@Princepieman is an active user, who is interested in both mathematics and CS, so I assume he could give you some advice in terms of courses.

To be honest, I'm not that interested in very specialised courses such as Data Science, Actuarial Science, Statistics etc. None of them really inspire enough interest and passion for me to be able to fully commit to them.

Computer Science or CompSci with Maths looks good to me, since a typical degree starts off with a wide set of core modules, and allows specialisation in later years once I've found my strengths and interests. Were I to change course, these two are pretty much the set choices for me.

I'm more interested in individual experiences of how certain university's compsci courses feel - since perhaps (not an attempt to excuse myself from my poor performance) I could've avoided the pain this course have given me had I truly known what it was like in advance. I don't want to make the same mistake and rush into things.

Data Science is not 'specialist'.

It's a combo of Maths, Computer Science and Statistics. Starts off leaning towards the Maths side of things, then afterwards you have free reign on how much maths, stats or CS you want in the course.

There's also the opportunity to take modules from other departments at the unis that do it (Warwick and Notts), so by no means is it a specialist degree that pigeonholes you or whatever.

Data Science and Maths + CS are pretty similar in that respect.
