I spent 4 years at college. My last 2 years were spent with people 2 years younger than me. It was fine. I'll be 21 in June and starting Uni in September. I like the idea of being older than a lot of the 18/19 year old undergraduates in the same boat as me. I also recognize there will be people older than me at uni. When I was 16/17/18 at college we had someone who was 23/24 in our class. He fitted in fine.

I think you'll benefit from being older.

    No, I hope not.

I will be in a similar position to you next year when I go to university.

You could maybe ask the University for an idea about the proportion of 18/19 year old's to returning students? They may be able to put your mind at rest. You may find that you fit in with them perfectly fine - you are only a couple of years older, but you have the added advantage of a bit of life experience too, so it's win-win!

Freshers week and clubs and societies are also great ways to make friends by connecting with people who have the same interest but may be different ages too.....

I'm at university and I'm 68. Studying Criminology.

There are loads of mature students older than you. I know student nurses who are in their thirties. Everyone is different and if someone doesn't get along with someone because they are older it's silly. Don't be nervous. Just embrace it

I'm going uni next year and 18 but wouldn't see a 21 year old as an outcast not unless you acted a lot older but if that's not the case is probably not even notice that you were older
