People disappearing from people's life without warning.

    Why do people do this?

It's incredibly rude and hurtful to the other person!

If you don't want to be in a platonic/romantic relationship with someone any more just tell them instead of just disappearing!

If you do not find someone attractive or you're not interested in them in a romantic way tell them and suggest that you two can (still) be friends...

    It's easy.

Because you're brought up to not be rude and because, for some reason, silence and no answer is easier than confronting the issue. Also if you are too intense and needy it will provoke this.

No one's under any obligation to keep you in their life if they don't want you in it.
