benzene ring activation/deactivation question

    According to a passage in the George facer edexcel book , phenyl ethanone undergoes nitration to form 2- and 4- nitro compounds. The same passage explains that a benzene ring bonded to an atom which also has a pi bond in it should have substitutions in 3 and 5 positions in the benzene ring. Size:  180.1 KB so how come phenyl ethanone is an exception? ( or did they perhaps put phenyl ethanone here by mistake ?!)
