First diagram on page 68 is incorrect. The 16 and 12 should be the other way around.

Algebra is correct. Distance to focus = 28, which is also the distance to the directrix. Since directrix is at x=-12, x-coordinates must be 28-12 = 16.

They don't say -a is 1, they divide through by a. If then as shown in the MS.
