Is Core Maths useful as an A level?

I'd like to do a physics course at university and looking at the entry requirements for A level, it requires Mathematics at A level. If I couldn't do Mathematics at A level and did core maths instead, would that help with my physics A level at all? I also assume that core maths isn't good enough for the university course offer.
