inb4 so you think homosexuality is a mental disorder?
Homosexuality is not even similar to transsexuality.

I do, it has many hallmarks of a disorder too.

One of the most interesting parts of studying psychology is how you classify mental conditions. It makes you think of all sorts of behaviour that can be classified as disorders yet isn't as it is seen as socially acceptable

Almost certainly, but some disorders it is not wise to "treat" in the sense of changing them or "fixing them" but it to allow them to best adapt to their mental state.

For the record I do think Homosexuality is a dis-order as well, but that doesn't mean it's "bad" just that it is a deviation from the norm.
I think it is, yes.

Yes, I do.

I do not think homosexuality, bisexuality etc. are disorders though, they're simply variations of sexual attraction. Whereas transsexuality is nothing like that at all.

One of my favourites is that if you believe in an invisible unicorn sitting in your living room, you're crazy; if you believe in an invisible man sitting in the sky, you're just religious. I'm not religion bashing, I've just always found it funny working in psychology that patients can come out with utterly unsupported delusions, but provided their delusions are religious, they're socially sanctioned and actually considered normal. Meanwhile the guy who believes the man in the next room down is trying to steal his money (statistically much more likely) is medicated to the eyeballs and diagnosed as schizophrenic.

Yea that's a classic example

Yes it is a disorder and is sinful. Same goes for homosexuality. But all sins are forgiven through faith in Jesus Christ.

Sometimes I think it is, something I think it isn't. Depends how horny I am.

Oh im sorry have you found a way to absolutely DISPROVE the existence of god? I think not

Disprove my unicorn then. He's bright pink and sitting in my office right now. In fact, he dictates all my reports.

Except actually, there's no way you can prove there's not a unicorn only I can see, sitting in my office tapping his hooves while I faff around on TSR before work. It's just extremely bloody unlikely and there's absolutely no reason to believe in him except that I said so. In fact, I've probably made Gerald up. :ninja:

But since you can't definitely disprove him, you must believe in him too, right?
Being trans isn't, but the gender dysphoria that goes with it is

What is your opinion on being gay/bi mate?

I agree on transsexualism. If that makes me a bigot or a transphobe, so be it.
A mental disorder is a condition that negatively affects the brain's ability to function normally (eg Autism, a developmental disorder, which has a negative effect on the person's ability to socialise. An example of one which is not developmental would be an anxiety disorder, which can negatively affect a person's ability to think clearly at certain times due to persisting fear and dread).

Transsexuality on the other hand, doesn't really affect the person's ability to function normally; a trans person feels that they are the opposite gender to their sex - it's certainly not "normal", and can probably be considered a mental condition, but it's not a disorder.

I'm not sure if I am honest on the question of gays
