1. the scale of the map is 1cm:150,000 Km.

A light house stands on an island of area 1.5cm^2 on the scale drawing.Work out the actual area of the island
2. You need to know that 1cm line would equal a 150000km line on the map.

so 1cm^2 would not equal a 150000km^2 area, it would be (150000 x 150000) km^2

because 1cm^2 = 1cm x 1cm
therefore 1cm^2 = 150000 x 150000 km^2
