The Student Room Group

Mature Student

Hi

I am considering a new career in nursing from March next year. However as a mature student I don't live at home so I have full rent to pay and bills. I also have a self employed boyfriend to support. From my research I have found that the bursary can be topped up with student loans but it doesn't seem to a large amount.

Im worried that money will be extremely tight.

Any advice please

I'm sorry to say, no words of comfort. As an adult, the money does look very tight. There is the argument that if you start September '17 you could have the slightly higher full student loan, rather than the current lower amount of grant/bursary/loan, but as it stands at present you would then have to also get a loan for your tuition fees. Personally, I would say if you have a place for March, take it. You might have to do some part time work, and the same for your boyfriend, but nothing worth having comes easy. Good luck.
