STEM snobbery

I think snobbery in regards to what people study is ridiculous and only highlights the obvious insecurities of the person criticising you for doing what you love. I'm a languages student, often I'm criticised for doing languages. But to me, it doesn't matter. I bloody love languages and I know that I'll enjoy studying them and using them in later life. If someone criticises you for doing what you love, nod and smile; then walk away.
French! :teeth: and Spanish :teeth:

Everyone has their own special way of learning a language. I like the security of being taught in a classroom environment :yep:
I study a STEM subject that some people say isn't a real STEM subject, that's ridiculously annoying

Some people just like to feel superior and clearly that's the only thing they can pick on.
psh ok
The way I see it is every subject has importance, if something makes someone happy then why should you judge because it's not STEM? STEM is great, but the world can't all just be STEM...what would the world be like without the arts, literature, languages etc. We need everything! Everything is beautiful
Biology
Everyone bickers about what they study, not just STEM students. It's just another thing to joke around about. Also, I don't think most of the snobbery is to do with STEM subjects being hard (for me they're the easiest), but more the usefulness - there's not much an Anthropology degree will get you.

As a STEM student who struggled through a language at AS: I applaud you :clap2::congrats:.

True. Even though I aspire to study a science based career, I've never understood the whole 'STEM master race' crap:dontknow:
Everyone can study whatever they want, most STEM snobbery is just banter anyway.

depends on the level tbh, most bright kids could do GCSE/A-level Physics with some help, not so many could do a Physics degree at a decent uni
doesn't seem "worked up" to me
That's GCSE lol....
being told Art isn't a subject really grates me when the clothes on their back are designed by someone focused on Art, textiles and fashion? And the phone they have is designed by someone specialised in an Art based subject also? Even the bed they sleep in!
I do Humanities subjects at A Level, they aren't easy but I find on here, if you don't do STEM, you are a failure according to users on here. I feel so inferior. :frown:

STEM is not everything. Try doing an essay based subject and then get back to me, okay?

I studied essay based subjects as well...For nothing more than fun relaxation after hours of rigorous Maths.

STEM is not everything. We all like different things and every degree is valuable regardless of what it is.
@Zacken ur STEP is not rigorous. Neither is IA of the Tripos

Propaganda, simply wrong.

You'd see what I meant if you attempted some Math proofs.
