EC wants to fine EU members '€250,000 per refused refugee'

EU member states could soon be charged hundreds of millions of euros for denying asylum to refugees if the European Commission has its way, according to media reports citing a measure to be proposed on Wednesday.

The scheme expected to be revealed by European Commission President Jean-Claude Junker is considered one of the most contentious parts of the revision to the so-called Dublin asylum regulation, which allows northern EU countries to deport refugees to their port of first entry.

The €250,000 fine per refugee ($289,659) was reportedly agreed upon during Monday’s meeting, Financial Times quoted sources as saying. However, the fine is not yet set in stone and could be subject to negotiation.

“The size of the contribution may change, but the idea is to make it appear like a sanction,” an official familiar with the proposal told the newspaper.Another source said that the fine would be “hundreds of thousands of euros” per refugee.

Let's be clear: this applies only to Schengen Area members, not the UK.

If the UK starts fining individual organisations in the UK for not doing x, is that also a dictatorship?

If England outvotes the rest of the UK and votes to Leave while Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland vote to Remain, is that a dictatorship?

As it is infringing over national rights to decide who they let in. They never signed up to a system that allows 1 person to dictate who from the rest of the world is allowed into their country, little boy.

Which 'one person' is dictating this?

Did you not see that it was agreed by Member States in Council?

That means they signed up to themselves.

So where's the dictatorial element?

Junker is the one person.

If you can find where it says in the rules that Junker can randomly start fining nations any sum he feels like for not allowing non EU citizens into their own country, be my guest.

Uhhh...what?

Listen. The Council, that is, the 28 Member States all banded together in a room, they, that is, the Council, voted, on behalf of their own countries, freely, to alter the law of the EU so that this thing can happen.

It's entirely legal. The EU Treaties allow the Council and Parliament to legislate for changes to EU law.

Can you show where Junker 'dictated' to them to vote this power?

Just a question, how many times a day do you pray to the EU gods? Reading your posts you appear to be a disciple of theirs.

The EU are looking at this from a human rights stand point. They're not looking at race. Maybe this was to relieve countries at the receiving end of all the burden and responsibilities and forcing other countries to sharing the burden.
