can i defer after firming my offer?

Hey,
I recently firmed my offer to study at Bristol but i'm now really regretting not having applied for deferred entry to take a gap year and don't really feel like going to uni this september - would they consider deferring my offer/place to 2017 entry? also would i need to explain why i want to do this and what i would be doing in my gap year?
